The world’s oldest desert, the Namib, offers scenes of wild seascapes and sky-high sand dunes that seem to defy gravity, and close by is Walvis Bay, where you’ll have the opportunity to witness the flocks of flamingoes that visit here, turning the desert into delicate pink hues. Sample traditional Namibian cuisine, including game and seafood, before sailing on to one of the most remote islands on earth, subtropical St. Helena, whose unique blend of nature and history offers an abundance of diverse attractions, including the intriguing 699 steps of Jacob’s Ladder and rugged coastlines. You can also learn how the island was used as a place of exile for prisoners, including Napoleon, who died on St. Helena.
